A Commitment to Excellence and Sustainability

At Château La Grace Fonrazade, our commitment to excellence in the production of our wines goes far beyond the simple pursuit of quality.

It is a global approach that incorporates a respectful vision of the environment, understanding that the exceptional quality of a wine cannot be dissociated from its relationship with the terroir and ecosystem that surround it.

Preserving the ecological balance and sustainability

We realise that the sustainability of our business and the health of our planet are closely linked. That’s why we have introduced innovative initiatives to reduce our ecological footprint, preserve natural resources and optimise our production processes. These initiatives include

  • Reducing staff and equipment travel, to limit the carbon footprint of our activities.
  • Energy self-sufficiency, by relying on local and sustainable solutions to meet our energy needs.
  • Recycling of agricultural waste and management of natural resources, illustrating our desire to make the most of everything that comes from the earth, turning it into a virtuous circle.

Promoting biodiversity and soil health

As part of our holistic approach, we have launched trials planting vegetables and aromatic plants directly in our vineyards. This approach enhances biodiversity and contributes to soil health, a key element in guaranteeing the long-term quality of our wines. It’s not just an investment in the quality of our products, but a responsible choice for the environment, while optimising the impacts associated with the production of our grands crus.

Reducing our carbon footprint

Reducing our carbon footprint is also at the heart of our strategy. This means:

  • Using more efficient tractors, sometimes even salvaged tractors rather than new ones, thus reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing new equipment.
  • Recycling of waste oils, a concrete example of our circular approach under ISO 14 001, which enables resources to be reused rather than thrown away.
  • Innovation in fermentation gas management to reduce the impact of these emissions.
  • Use of a natural source that cools our buildings through the floor.
  • We are self-sufficient in heating because we no longer consume oil and use very little electricity to heat our wines and buildings.
  • Cooling our buildings with Canadian wells to limit electricity consumption.

These are just a few examples of our efforts to use innovation to promote sustainability, while at the same time optimising our practices.

Rainwater harvesting: a simple but effective solution

Capturing rainwater to treat our plots is another example of our desire to act efficiently and productively. By reusing available natural resources, without drawing on natural reserves, we limit our dependence on conventional irrigation systems and preserve the balance of the soil.

An Inspiring Model for the Wine Industry

Thanks to this global approach, which combines the quality of our wines and the preservation of the environment with a vital balance between the well-being of our employees and the need to maintain the attractiveness of our professions, our winery has become an inspiring model for our business. Every action we take aims to reconcile excellence in the production of our wines with a profound respect for our planet. By continuing along this path, we are not only creating exceptional wines, we are also working to protect our planet for future generations.

Our commitment and that of our employees represents the very essence of our sustainable vision for a more environmentally-friendly winegrowing future, and one that offers hope for the industry as a whole, because we are here to share in these efforts.
